Quartz is generally the better call for bigger, open plan layouts, since the pattern and colour repeat consistently across a long worktop. Granite suits smaller or more traditional kitchens particularly well, where the natural stone character adds interest rather than needing to blend into a big uniform surface. Either way, we quote both granite and quartz for every March enquiry so you’re comparing like for like before deciding. Barn conversions and older farmhouses around March tend to suit granite particularly well, given the character of the rest of the building.

We run a family owned stonemasonry workshop in Biggleswade, supplying granite and quartz worktops to March on a regular working basis. Templating is done to your exact kitchen or bathroom, fabrication happens in our own workshop, and fitting is carried out by the same people who cut the stone, so there’s continuity through the whole job. Our March customers include homeowners upgrading a kitchen, landlords preparing a rental property, and developers or trade contractors working on bigger schemes. We work with plenty of self builders in March too, coordinating fabrication and fitting around the rest of their build schedule.

Resealing granite once a year is enough to keep it resistant to oil, wine and general staining, and it's a straightforward job. Quartz doesn't need sealing at all, a wipe with warm soapy water keeps it in good order. Where a kitchen or commercial unit sees heavy daily use, that lower maintenance often makes quartz the sensible choice, although granite still holds strong appeal for its natural look. Either option should easily outlast the kitchen it's fitted into, with the right basic care.
